Where Does My Confidence Come From?
Someone once asked me:
“Where does your confidence come from?”
I thought about it for a while and realized that it doesn’t come from believing I’m better than everyone else.
It comes from all the times I’ve failed and still stood up.
From the nights when I had to figure things out on my own.
From stepping onto a stage even when I was still nervous inside.
From making decisions when no one could guarantee that I would succeed.
And most importantly, it comes from keeping my promises to myself.
When I say I will do something, I do it.
When I say I will learn, I learn.
When I say I will keep going, I keep going.
Every time I do, I gain a little more faith in myself.
I don’t think confidence means saying, “I know I’ll win.”
To me, confidence means:
“Whatever the outcome, I know I can handle it.”
That’s a different kind of confidence.
It doesn’t need to be loud.
It doesn’t need to prove anything.
It doesn’t mean walking into a room believing you’re the best person there.
It simply means knowing that you’ve prepared, you’ve been through enough, and when something goes wrong — you’ll find a way forward.
I’ve doubted myself too.
I’ve been afraid of failure.
I’ve had moments when I didn’t know whether I was on the right path.
But I eventually realized that if I waited until I was completely fearless before moving forward, I might never begin.
So I don’t try to become someone who is never afraid.
I simply want to become someone who moves forward even when fear is still there.
Perhaps that’s where my confidence comes from.
Not from believing that I will always win.
But from believing that even when I lose, I can still stand up and keep going.
